A farewell and welcoming ceremony specifically for outgoing and incoming Chinese Medical Team was held in Maseru Sun on 3rd July 2007. The Minister of Health and Welfare, the Representative of WHO, The Director General and The Superintendent of Queen II Hospital and the Counsellors from Chinese Embassy in the Kingdom of Lesotho were present at the ceremony.
The honourable minister from Ministry of Health and Welfare in her address highly appraised the humanitarian assistance provided by sending the medical team. The team has been deployed in Queen II Hospital and facilitates access to the hospital for ten years. The introduction of Chinese traditional medicine attracts lots of patients and the acupuncture treatment becomes so ‘ hot ‘ in Maseru that the capacity of existing service is outstripped recently. Nowadays more and more people are overwhelmed by the miraculous effect in treatment for certain sicknesses.
The Chinese Medical team has been in Lesotho for ten years since the protocol signed in 1997. There have been nearly 100 doctors and specialist working in Lesotho who made great contribution for the health improvement and deepening relationship between the two countries. The arrival of the 6th team maintains a continuity of Chinese government’s support in enhancement of health care for Basotho people.
